Bridging creativity and production in packaging design.

Paradox is a digital platform designed to simplify the packaging design process, from initial concepts to production-ready files. By bringing dieline creation, 3D visualization, collaboration, and print preparation into one connected workspace, it helps designers navigate technical requirements without interrupting their creative flow.

Developed as my Master's thesis in Experience Design at San José State University, the project explores how emerging technologies can make specialized design tools more intuitive, efficient, and accessible.

‍

CHALLENGE:

Packaging design involves much more than creating something visually appealing. Designers must balance creative decisions with structural requirements, print specifications, and feedback from clients and manufacturers.

Yet much of this process happens across disconnected tools, manual workflows, and lengthy back-and-forth communication. Mistakes are often discovered late, leading to unnecessary revisions, delays, and material waste.

The challenge was to find a way to simplify these technical complexities while giving designers more time and freedom to focus on creating.

Case study coming soon...

APPROACH:

I began by examining the packaging design workflow through 25 interviews with designers, print specialists, and industry professionals, alongside secondary research and competitive analysis.

I identified three areas where designers experienced the most friction: dieline creation, mockup development, and final file preparation.

These insights shaped an integrated experience built around three connected modes: Design, Mockup, and Print. Through iterative prototyping, I explored how 2D and 3D visualization, contextual collaboration, and intelligent assistance could work together while keeping designers in control of their creative decisions.

‍

OUTCOME:

One connected experience, from concept to production. Paradox brings dieline editing, live 3D previews, collaborative feedback, and automated pre-flight checks into a single workflow, helping designers identify potential issues earlier and prepare files with greater confidence.

Rather than replacing creative judgment, the platform uses technology to support it, demonstrating how a more connected design experience could reduce repetitive work, improve collaboration, and make the transition from idea to production feel more seamless.
